Help Micaela keep her home

Before her life changed due to a home invasion and physical assault in October of 2022, Micaela McGinty enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and being active in the community. Whether it was a New Year’s Eve Party, going to concerts, playing games, making jokes, smiling, or visiting on the phone, she was someone who participated in life fully. She rarely missed an event for her children or the church, and she was active in hobbies like singing, playing the piano, cooking, gardening, driving to visit with her mom, and just laughing in general.
After the assault to place, life as she knew it changed. Later in the same week, Micaela suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury as a direct result of the home invasion. She also began experiencing increasing mental health symptoms, like finding it difficult to relax and have peace of mind in her home. Due to anxiety and hypervigilance, she also socialized less and found it stressful to go out and participate in the activities that she once enjoyed.
Her mental health took a toll on every aspect of her life, including the relationships she had with family and friends. Micaela eventually started isolating herself and only having a sense of security when she was away from other people. Daily functioning also became significantly harder after other health complications and hospitalizations occurred.
Since October of 2022, Micaela went on to suffer from hair loss, a 40-pound decrease in weight, and overall declining mental and physical health. She would eventually be diagnosed with PTSD, pancreatitis, diabetes, anxiety, and depression. These issues eventually took a toll on her ability to maintain a job that would provide for the costs of living, including her mortgage payment and her car note. After becoming unemployed, Micaela cashed out her retirement early to be able to afford her monthly bills as she began the process of applying for disability.
As of March 20th, 2024, Micaela is still awaiting a hearing for disability. She has been making it through these tough life experiences and unknowns by relying on the strength she finds through faith and family. Micaela believes that God has a purpose for everything that He does, and that His grace will see her through this. She is forever grateful for her families’ continuous prayers, bible passages, and little things like texts or visits that have really kept her going through all of this.
With recent hospitalizations in January and February of 2024, Micaela has found little access to help or community resources that would offer assistance for mortgage funding while she awaits her disability hearing. Micaela has found some help with utility payments and gas funding, for which she is very thankful. She finds it difficult to reach out and ask for help but has decided that this may be worth a shot. She would be forever grateful if she were able to keep her home and avoid being forced into foreclosure as she goes through this time-consuming process.
Although Micaela has a back-up plan, it would be the biggest blessing if she were able to keep her home and have some stress relieved as she moves forward with healing and recovery.
All funding will be applied towards Micaela’s back-mortgage amount, followed by any excess to go to future mortgage amounts and utility payments so that the burden can be relieved from the church.
