Help Michael Gonzalez and Family

Donation protected

My fiancé Michael, was in a tragic motorcycle accident yesterday, Sunday, August 1, 2021. We are experiencing more heartache than anyone can imagine as we learn more about his extensive injuries. I am a very prideful mother of 6 and will do everything and anything it takes to take care of our family while Michael recovers. But for those of you who are able to help in anyway you can, we would greatly appreciate it! Michael, I love you more than words can explain & I still plan to marry you the first chance I get. Michaels kids & I need all the love and support we can get. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts as we head into surgery today. ❤️

Everyone please be careful riding and wear helmets, it saved his life!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, words cannot explain our gratitude to you! Michael Gonzalez made it through surgery to repair his spinal fractures of T1-T8, titanium screws and a rod were placed to align his spine back into place. His other injuries do include broken ribs on both sides, broken scapula (Shoulder) on his left side, a broken clavicle on his right side, a C7 fracture in his neck, T9 spinal fracture, he had bilateral pneumothorax (2 collapsed lungs) which were repaired by double chest tubes, bilateral lung contusions (bruised lungs), and a tear in his left lower lobe of his lung.

With all that being said this man is a trooper and we believe in him; he does not have any feeling below his ribs to his feet, he is paralyzed. We are hopeful and praying that he will in time, regain function but it is not a definite process.

So please our family still needs all the help we can get to anyone who is able, we are facing a long road to recovery but I promise you, we will not give up! — at UofL Hospital Trauma Center.

8/11/21:UPDATE: WARNING LONG POST!

Over this past week a lot has changed for us, when we woke up on August 1st we didn’t plan for our life to do a complete 180, all that was on my mind was that we had 42 days left until our wedding date, then all of a sudden all that changed when I got that phone call at 4:43pm. I’m sharing because I know everyone keeps asking if I am doing okay or if the kids are okay, to be honest no we are not okay. But we are doing the absolute best that we can. We are incredibly grateful that we still have our person in our life, my partner, best friend and the father of my children. All that matters is that he is still here with us and that’s more than I could ask for.

Michael Gonzalez is doing well, he is making the progress he needs in order to go to rehab, it’s all just a matter of waiting for authorizations, insurance and paperwork to go through. Medically he is healing very well but he still in a great deal of pain as all the bones begin to mend. Michael is still paralyzed from the chest down with zero mobility or feeling, but we will fight each and every day to beat the odds & have him walk again.

We will continue to be trying to raise money for our family for many reasons. We are blown away by the amount of support we have received so far. This past week, we have had to had the conversations of if our home is wheel chair accessible, a wheel chair accessible vehicle, who will be the care giver for him, moving so that we can accommodate his needs for a hospital bed, filing for disability. The amount of things we have had to figure out in such a short amount of time is overwhelming to say the least but we are taking it day by day and we have a whole VILLAGE backing us.

Our fundraiser is helping with not only our monthly bills now that Michael is unable to work but to help with medical bills, a down payment for a house that is suitable for his needs, along with a vehicle to transport himself and our 6 kids.

Thank you for all of the continued thoughts and prayers day in and day out, it does not go unnoticed. I am so thankful we have the support system we do, because it takes a village to get through it.

Please continue to share or donate if you are able, we are forever grateful to each and every one of you.

UPDATE: 8/15/21⚠️LONG POST⚠️

PLEASE READ WHOLE POST IF YOU WANT ACCURATE INFORMATION!

I wanted to clear up some things. I know everyone wants updates, and we can’t express how much we appreciate everyone’s care and support! It’s honestly hard to find time to give these updates between helping Michael, seeing the kids, figuring out how we are going to support Michael at home, transportation, etc. Finding a moment with a clear mind is almost impossible!

Because of how sensitive the situation is, I’ve tried to be as optimistic and uplifting while sharing the reality of the situation, while also being sensitive to our family and children. I feel like I am at a place where we can be more transparent.

First and foremost, we are so blessed that Michael survived. I think about this every day. When he went into surgery, we were told there was a 50/50 chance of reversing paralysis. The surgery went well because he’s still here with us, but he now has a 5-10% chance of regaining feeling below his chest. He has less than 1% chance of walking again. Everyday he is in pain just to adjust to all the changes while also healing from other broken bones where he still has feeling.

The plan from this point forward is, we will be at Frazier Rehab for 2-3 weeks for Family Training Time, essentially this means they are teaching me and other family members who are willing to help, how to take care of Michael at home such as moving him from point A to B and taking care of his personal hygiene etc. until he is able to do it himself.

Once Family training ends he at Frazier and we are able to do it on our own we will then go home for 8-12 weeks while his upper extremities heal. Michael is unable to move himself, sit up on his own, shift his body weight alone, etc.

Once his shoulder and collarbone have healed and he is able to bear weight on his upper body then we will return to Frazier for a couple more weeks for them to teach him how to take care of himself and be a little bit more self sufficient such as going to the bathroom and moving himself and what not. Then we will try to adjust to our new lifestyle as best as we can.

I don’t want to come off misleading. We pray to be one of the 5-10% but we are busting our butts to adjust to our new life, and we are blessed by the people who are praying for and supporting us. His progress he is making is huge, and we are blessed to have so many cheering him on as he succeeds. THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY AND WE WOULD LOVE THE SUPPORT EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!

I love you Michael Gonzalez!
