My name is Michael Johnson, I am a Pharmacy Technician by profession. As a Pharmacy Technician, I am dedicated to improving patient care both in my profession and through volunteer work. As an active member of Ghana Medical Relief, I assist in providing essential medication and healthcare support to those in need across Ghana's rural communities.
Ghana Medical Relief (GMR) is a U.S. based 501(c) nonprofit humanitarian organization committed to transforming healthcare delivery in Ghana’s most vulnerable communities. Through strategic partnerships with hospitals, churches, and organizations across the United States, GMR acquires and distributes life saving medical supplies and equipment to under resourced hospitals and clinics, ensuring they have the tools needed to provide quality care. Since its inception, GMR has made a tangible difference by donating critical medical resources, including hospital beds, ultrasound machines, examination tables, cardiac defibrillators, advanced operating room equipment, and essential medications. Beyond material support, GMR organizes annual healthcare missions in rural Ghana, where volunteer medical teams provide comprehensive services such as general medicine, urology, dentistry, obstetrics & gynecology, ear & throat care, pediatrics, and general surgery directly to villagers who lack access to basic healthcare. Understanding that healthcare extends beyond temporary treatment, GMR goes a step further by purchasing medical insurance for those in need, enabling long-term follow-up care and consistent medication refills, a lifeline for patients managing chronic conditions. Additionally, each mission includes hands-on CPR training, empowering local community members with life-saving skills and providing certifications to enhance emergency response capabilities. Driven by compassion and collaboration, GMR brings together a diverse team of healthcare professionals, educators, engineers, lawyers, and dedicated volunteers, all united by a common purpose to bridge healthcare gaps, promote wellness, and create sustainable change for the people of Ghana. Through innovation, education, and direct intervention, GMR continues to build a healthier future one community at a time.
