Help Michael's Wife Dorrie Fight Stage 3 Glioblastoma
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Michael Sexton. My hope is to raise funds to help with the rising cost of my wife’s medical expenses: treatment, travel expenses, and medication.
In July of '22, she had an accident where she fell down our stairs leading to our basement. We called first responders, and she went to the local hospital, where they discovered a couple of masses in her brain—one on the surface and one in her brain stem. After an emergency brain surgery to remove one of the masses and place a shunt to relieve pressure from fluid buildup on her brain, we found out it was cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 3 glioblastoma.
Since surgery in this area of the brainstem is not possible, we proceeded with radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Everything seemed to be going well after frequent MRIs to check and make sure everything was okay. Now, after almost 3 years, a recent MRI discovered a couple of new spots growing within the brainstem. We now have a plan for another round of radiation and chemo. But with that comes the expense of having to drive 120 miles round trip daily for the next 2 weeks for treatment. That’s not including local trips to the hospital for frequent bloodwork and other trips to Indianapolis IU Health Neuroscience Building for IV infusions to maintain the integrity of the good parts of her brain.
And that’s just the cancer in her brain. She also found that she has cancer in her chest. Although it’s very slow-growing, it’s cancer nonetheless, which warrants trips to IU Simon Cancer Center for MRIs and doctor visits. All of this is overwhelming and keeps me from working and being able to provide gas or just money in general for my wife’s medical expenses and family needs: bills, house, property taxes, regular vehicle maintenance. This is the reason I’m reaching out for any and all possible help in our time of need.
