It is with a heavy heart I’m reaching out to ask for help for my dear friend Michelle. At the end of 2021 Michelle had felt extremely weak and was experiencing back pain. After going to the hospital they had told her kidneys were failing and they needed to keep her to monitor her levels. After multiple tests were ran they had noticed certain blood levels that were cause for concern. A bone marrow transplant was ordered and they had discovered she had Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma. A cancer of plasma cells that is known to damage the bones, immune system, kidneys and overall red blood cell count. Her amazing team of doctors came up with a plan of action right away starting her on various forms of chemotherapy. After months of managing this she was given the opportunity to undergo a stem cell transplant which meant completely replacing her old cells and adding new healthy cells in her body. Unfortunately with this specific illness you aren’t always guaranteed perfect lab results and multiple good days in a row. Of course complications will arise as with any disease, however the amount of bumps in the road has been a journey to say the least. Although told she has been in remission post stem cell transplant, her immune system will forever be compromised. In the recent weeks she has been in considerable pain has lost a considerable amount of weight. After another series of tests they have discovered that a form of chemotherapy had caused an obstruction of her small bowel. She has been unable to keep solid foods down for over a few weeks and in tern receiving nutrients through a port that was inserted. Everyone is in hopes that her body will be able to recover on its own but if that is not the case she will undergo surgery.
We are waiting to hear what the next course of treatment will be, if decided surgery that’s means another 2/3+ weeks in the hospital. Michelle has always been one of the most giving souls I’ve ever met, now is our time to give back. Please keep Michelle in your thoughts as we all are praying for good health and a quick recovery.
