Help Michele Call fight leukemia!
Michele was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2021. In order to fight it back into remission, she is receiving chemotherapy treatment.
While her health insurance is covering some of the costs, it is rapidly approaching its maximum lifetime cap.
The funds raised here will be used for the following reasons:
- to help with medical bills
- to assist in home care costs
- for travel and other expenses related to her treatment
Your donations are much appreciated!
Update - 29 Aug 2021:
First of all, thank you all for the great outpouring of generosity and love! Your donations are making a great difference!
Just this past weekend, Michele and Robert moved up to Albuquerque, NM to receive continued treatment at the University of New Mexico Cancer Center. An important reason for this is that her private health insurance in Mexico has been maxed out (for this particular condition). We are hoping that she might qualify for Medicaid - if not, she'll apply for health insurance from the ACA marketplace.
Initial results from blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy following her first round of chemotherapy were promising, showing indications of remission. Her current plan of care is to receive more chemotherapy to ensure that all the cancerous cells are eradicated. We'll update this page as we learn more about her care under the new team of cancer professionals at the UNM Cancer Center.
Thanks again!
Update - 8 Apr 2022:
First of all, apologies for not providing a more recent update! A lot has transpired since the previous update in August 2021. As many of you may have heard by now, Michele's battle against leukemia came to an end last month.
She put up a fierce and brave fight, but ultimately, none of the available treatments were successful in eradicating the cancer. The treatment she received at the UNM Cancer Center was top-notch. During the last weeks of her life, she also received hospice care there in New Mexico. The many healthcare and hospice workers she interacted with during this time were professional, compassionate, and enabled her to live with as much dignity and comfort as possible under the circumstances.
We are deeply grateful for all the love and support we've felt throughout this challenging journey. Your donations and expressions of strength and support have made all the difference. You directly enabled Michele to do all she could to fight this cancer and your contributions will not be forgotten.
Thank you!
