Help Michelle & Wade Fight Cancer!

Michelle is the first one to arrive at any event to help out, and the last one to leave. She does it with the warmest smile. If you know Michelle and Wade, you have probably been helped by Michelle, Wade and their children. Now, they’re the ones that need help. Pictured above are Michelle, their daughter Chloe, Wade, their son Nate, and Michelle's mother Katrinka (they have another son not pictured.)
In August, Wade started getting sore throats and a rasp in his voice. In November, he was diagnosed with carcinoma from HPV on the tonsil and back of the tongue. While the overall prognosis is hopeful (stage three cancer) complication after complication has taken a toll on their household.
Wade had been told prior to surgery that the surgery would include the removal of the tumor on his left tonsil including the growth on his tongue and in addition lymph nodes on both sides of his neck. The three hour surgery turned out to be a long agonizing eleven hours. The cancer was very aggressive attaching to several of his nerves and wrapping around his jugular in his neck. During the surgery the doctor found that Wade's epiglottis was almost swollen shut and couldn't believe he had made it this long in this condition. He was left with no choice but to insert a tracheotomy in order to provide him with a secure air way. Wade spent a total of 26 days in the hospital, this past December, many in the ICU due to several complications including an infection that sent him back to the operating room 2 weeks after the initial surgery. It was a long hard holiday season for their entire family. Wade is currently resting at home while also undergoing his seven weeks of radiation therapy that also include seven treatments of chemo therapy as well. His epiglottis continues to be swollen, the doctors can't explain why, so he continues to be need the trach in order to breathe and a tube for eating. Wade continues to be abnormally swollen in his neck area which makes it difficult to swallow, eat, talk, etc. He is unable to drive or work.
Michelle is a selfless teacher at Hudson Hills Academy, and there can’t be a more beloved teacher at any school. She has tried to take a little time as possible out of the classroom. Every student she has is a little piece of her heart, and she can’t stand the thought of them having to go on without her. But sometimes she has to be with Wade, who has had no choice but to miss week after week of his job.
If you know anyone who has been through something like this, you know the mounting bills feel as hard to fight as the cancer. Wade and Michelle are strong people with a stronger marriage. They consider themselves givers, and would never ask for this help for themselves. They are grateful for the doctors and family they’ve surrounded themselves with, and more people show up everyday to help them on their journey. However, if you know them, or you know people like them, please give. You will feel better about yourself and the world when you know generous friends like these are struggling just a little bit less.
Thank you very much for your prayers, your consideration, and your support!
