Help Michelle and Lee Recover
I am Ashley Haynie, creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister, Michelle Moore, and my brother-in-law, Lee Moore.
In the very early hours of Sunday morning, March 28, my little sister, Michelle Moore, her husband, Lee Moore, and their infant son, Montgomery Moore, were involved in a carjacking.
Michelle was in the backseat of her car with Monty in his car seat, parked next to a pump at the gas station while Lee went inside to buy some things. A man climbed into the front seat and drove off with Michelle and Monty still in the car. As he slowed down to get onto I-45, Michelle managed to jump out of the car with Monty and get to safety.
While police pursued the man with Michelle's car, another officer drove Michelle, Lee, and Monty to my apartment in Dallas where they were able to recoup and wait for Lee's family to take them back to Wichita Falls.
The man is in custody, but not before he totaled Michelle's car.
This horrific incident will have ripples that are felt more than just financially, for both Michelle and Lee.
Insurance will likely cover the cost of the car, but probably not the items in the car - such as Monty's car seat and stroller and Michelle's phone, which was recovered but still damaged. Insurance also might not cover if they need a rental car for an extended period of time.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to give the Moore's a fund to replace things, give a cushion for Michelle as she navigates the fallout of this along with getting back to work, as well as to use towards any counseling or therapy they might require to help process the events of that night.
I also understand that many people reading this who know them might not be aware of what happened and will want to reach out - I do encourage you to do so, but be mindful of the amount of stress both of them are under currently and please try to not overwhelm them and be understanding if they don't get back to you personally right away.
Thank you so so so much for any help you are able to give, even if it's just in the form of prayers and reaching out.
We love you Michelle, Lee, Monty.
