Help Michelle Portillo

My beautiful cousin, Michelle, was one of many caught in the Creek Fire during Labor Day weekend while camping at Mammoth Pool Reservoir. Every year, our family takes this camping trip to reconnect and unite, and this year, Covid-19 made it much more needed.

Yet this year, the Creek Fire turned what is normally an amazing experience to a complete nightmare. Some of my family members escaped, others found themselves seeking refuge from the fire in the lake, but a few, including Michelle, found themselves literally running for their lives with the campsite burning down around them.

This is why I am reaching out to everyone. Luckily and miraculously, they made it out alive but they were injured and suffered bad burns trying to escape. However, my beautiful cousin Michelle has suffered the most injuries. Although I am thankful to God that she is alive, she suffered deep burns all over her body and suffered a fractured spine and pelvic bone.

Because the burns are so severe and because she will need surgery, she will stay hospitalized at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for the next upcoming weeks, alone and separated from her family.

The future is truly unknown for now but I do know that her mom, Reina, her dad, Ernesto, and her brother, Kevin, who was also burned on his arm, leg and face, will be facing financial hardship due to this tragic event. They need financial support to pay for the medical costs incurred from this tragedy and the costs of recovery. Especially because both Kevin and Michelle will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.

I was thinking of how I can help and I know I can’t do this alone, which is why I am reaching out with a Go Fund Me. I ask that you help me and my family by donating money to help with the upcoming unexpected hospital bills and other expenses due to this horrible event.

Any amount donated will make a difference!

If you know me, you know I love my family. My heart breaks for them. We are united, we’ve been through so much together. I know if I was in this situation, they wouldn’t hesitate to help me. I am grateful they are all alive and I know we will help each other get through this.

Life can change in a blink of an eye! Hug your loved ones, be grateful to wake up another day, be gentle and kind.

I love you all!
