Help Michelle save her viable embryo

Please help Michelle save a life!

-In January 2019, Michelle, at the age of 42, and her now ex-husband underwent an IVF procedure using her eggs and his sperm that resulted in two healthy embryos; a boy and a girl. In March of that year, they implanted the first one, but Michelle miscarried in April. They wanted the gender to be a surprise, so she doesn’t know if she lost her son or her daughter.

-The two separated three months later and Michelle's ex-husband immediately said he wanted to destroy the embryo. Attempts to repair the relationship failed as did Michelle's attempts to negotiate an end to the marriage that preserved the life of the remaining embryo.

-The judge who presided over the divorce chose to take a month to consider before delivering a decision to destroy the embryo or give it a chance at life. In November 2020, he awarded the embryo to Michelle. Her ex-husband immediately filed a motion to reconsider. In February 2021, that motion was heard and denied by the judge.

-Her ex-husband is now appealing this decision. She has told him she will not seek emotional or financial support from him for the child and is willing to make that legally binding. He has rejected this.

-Michelle has already spent tens of thousands of dollars in divorce litigation and in distribution of her assets to her ex-husband. Implantation of the embryo will cost another $5,000. She has weathered this financial storm on her own and has a plan to recover, but the legal fees from the appeal risks derailing her financial future.

-Michelle has no children; this embryo is her only chance at having a biological child of her own. Because of how long this process has dragged on, the chances of her retrieving viable eggs at the age of 44 are substantially diminished. Moreover, because of the significant amount of money she has spent on the divorce, she simply cannot afford to undergo IVF again.

-To Michelle, this is a life; this is her child. She believes the child deserves to be able to grow up and experience the beauty this world has to offer and contribute to making the world a better place. She cannot cosign on a decision to kill her child because of the cost of litigation.

-Please kindly consider donating to help her reach her goal of $25,000 (lawyer and court fees) to save this child's life and help Michelle become a mother. Any unused funds will be donated to the University of Virginia’s children’s hospital. Given how financially difficult this past year has been for so many, prayers and sharing of her story is also welcome.
