Help the Lawing family after the loss of Mike
Donation protected
On September 17th my brother-in-law Mike began vomiting with severe abdominal and back pain and was rushed to Kent County Hospital. That night, they said they were going to rush him for emergency gallbladder removal surgery. Unfortunately, things went downhill very fast and instead of surgery, he spent the night and the next day in the Emergency Room getting admitted. On the 18th they let them know that he had the most severe case of Pancreatitis they’ve seen and was now developing an infection of unknown origin. Over the last two weeks things have continued to go downhill and this weekend his doctors, nurses, surgeons, and specialists all agreed that Mike would not make it though this without transferring out of state for a higher level of care. He was moved to the hospital at Yale/New Haven which is over an hour and a half each way for my sister to drive. As of today October 2nd, he has lost over 40lbs, he still cannot keep even a sip of water down, and his pancreas has filled with fluid causing the inflammation to be even more of an issue. He is surviving off of nutrients given through a PICC Line, and continues to show no signs of improvement. He is looking at a long hospital stay and road to recovery once he is allowed to go home.
It has now been over two weeks in to a long hospital stay, and my sister Caitlyn isn’t able to currently work. She travels back and forth everyday to the hospital to be with Mike, then back home to take care of their 6-year-old son, Grayson. Mike will run out of any paid time through work this week, they do not qualify for TDI, and they will soon be living only on their savings.
Caitlyn and Mike are both the type of people who would give the shirt off their backs for anyone and have helped so many people over the years. Now, I’m asking now for anyone able to step up and help them in this time of need. Anything helps towards groceries, bills, and gas for travel so Caitlyn to continue to be there for him. Anything helps, and I hope we can come together and help them out through this difficult time.
Thank you!
