Help Mike Recover After a Devastating Fall

Hi my name is Kimberly Walchuk, I am Shannon Kraska’s step sister.

I am reaching out with heavy heart to ask for your support for our dear Mike Kraska, my brother law, who recently suffered a life-changing accident.

On April 20th 2025 around 2am Shannon was awaken by a large noise and found that Mike fainted and fell down a flight of stairs and sustained serious injuries, including fractures to his neck and back(C-4, C-5, C6 and T1). He also suffered a 6” laceration the his skull. When Shannon found Mike he was non responsive and lying in a pool of blood. She was able to get to him right away and his step daughter Faith was able to call 911 immediately.

The road ahead will be long and challenging, involving possible surgery in Vancouver , rehabilitation, and ongoing care to help Mike regain mobility and independence. Mike is going to have to learn to eat again, walk again and learn to live with the permanent brain damage he sustained.

This tragic event has turned Mike and his families world upside down. Mike is currently in the Prince George hospital, and we’re still learning the full extent of what recovery will require — both physically and financially. With time away from work, and possible home modifications, the costs are going to be overwhelming for his wife(my sister).

Shannon is a nurse herself and has dedicated herself to the community of Prince George for many years. For those who are unaware Shannon has also been off work for the past 18months while she continues to heal from PTSD. Mike has ran his own small business for the past 30years in Prince George.

For those of you who do not know Mike, he is an incredible person. He is a fantastic father and husband. He is a great friend and always there to help others when they’ve needed it.
