Help Mike Unruh Beat Cancer

Donation protected

On February 5, 2020, our beloved father, grandpa, and husband, Mike Unruh, after a routine colonoscopy, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer. This news came as a big shock to us all, as he had been seemingly healthy.

Fast forward to what feels like a blur in this pandemic and Mike has now quietly completed 1/3 of his Cancer Battle Journey. He has successfully finished his Chemo Therapy and is now healing and resting up for the next stages of his treatment.

In the upcoming weeks, he will be starting an intense regimen of Radiation Therapy to concentrate treatment and hopefully eliminate the threat ahead of the third and final step, surgery to remove the damaged tissue.

As you can imagine, finding out you or your family member or friend has cancer is scary enough and the added unknowns of treatment during a pandemic have compounded many challenges we could not foresee.

Through it all, Mike has remained strong, focused, and very resilient, taking it one day at a time and trying to focus on staying healthy during this pandemic. He even tried to return to work in hopes of returning to "normal."

At this time, while Mike is in recovery, he is not physically able to continue working at his job at the City of Ilwaco, as a City Water Treatment Plant Operator. He has also been denied any disability benefits that would cover expenses while he battles cancer into 2021.

We are asking friends, family, and anyone who is willing for help and support at this time so that our family can help see this cancer fight through.

We are humbly seeking $10,000 to help cover monthly Cobra Insurance so that he can keep his current insurance, help with monthly living expenses and unexpected costs that will arise throughout the remaining course of treatment, where he will be in the hospital for 10 days post-op recovering before he heads home to heal.

Our family understands this is a troubling time for all and we thank everyone so much for all of their love, support, and kind words and prayers at this time. We also thank all of the health care workers who show up every day to take care of those in need, risking their own health and safety, while showing care and compassion to those in treatment without their loved ones by their side.

Thank you.

With love,

The Unruh Family
