Help Military Vet Mark After Accident
Donation protected
On Friday, October 21st, my dad, military veteran Mark Cooney, was going about his work as a handyman. He was working on a ladder, cleaning 2nd story windows. Unfortunately, he doesn't even remember setting up this ladder. He just remembers waking up in a hospital bed. Mark suffered a fall from two stories up, leading to a shattered left forearm, grade 2 concussion, avulsion fracture of the first vertebrae in his cervical spine, a bruised right eye, and a wound on his right shin. His arm required immediate surgery to place a plate and several screws. His neck injury will require the use of a brace for up to 2 months.
As if these injuries aren't enough, he did not have medical coverage in place at the time of this accident, nor has he ever taken the benefits he is entitled to for his military service. He always believed there was another vet who would need these benefits more, so he never applied for any of them. This is how he is in all aspects of life: always giving and taking care of others and never doing more than the minimum to take care of himself. He has always been extremely careful in all of his work as a handyman, electrician, plumber, and animal caregiver to avoid any real injuries.
We still don't know what caused him to fall from the ladder as it was still standing post-accident. We do know that because of his injuries, he has a long road ahead, including a lot of rest, self-care, physical therapy, and follow-up medical visits. He won't be able to drive for the foreseeable future and, unfortunately, won't be able to work. We are creating this gofundme page without his knowledge to ask for help with medical and living expenses until he is able to work again. Any amount at all will help and will be greatly appreciated.
