One Veteran Army Ranger vs. an $18B Corporation.
With your support, we can make this a fair fight.
PK Kelley is a Service-disabled Veteran Army Ranger with three combat deployments overseas.
He is much more comfortable helping others than asking for help.
He bought into a "Veteran Friendly" franchise and, like many others, he and his father have now lost everything.
Rather than let him focus on rebuilding his life and sharing the lessons he learned with other veterans, the $18M corporation (the 17th largest private company in America) is demanding nearly $200,000 in fees, interest and penalties for having trusted their failed system.
They Don't Just Want His Money. They Want his Voice.
The attorneys from the huge corporation are demanding that Army Ranger PK Kelley relinquish his Freedom of Speech & keep him from warning other Veterans by signing a confidentiality gag order that will keep him from sharing his experiences and opinions with future potential victims.
If he is bullied into signing their agreement, he will not even be able to ever tell anyone he ever owned their franchise.
PK Kelley Has Dedicated Years of His Life to Helping Others.
In addition to his military service, John "PK" Kelley was recognized for his support role getting Americans, Interpreters, Families and High Risk Partners out safely during the Af-ghan withdrawal.
Kelley served his community upon return as a police officer. A true Texan & lifelong rider, PK volunteers at an Equine Therapy non-profit & gives his time freely to several Veteran causes.
Kelley helps Veterans and others recovering, as he did, from an addiction to alcohol, PTSD & other ongoing challenges of modern life.
But now PK Kelley needs help. He is under severe legal threats by a large corporation that he cannot afford to fight.
He and his father have both lost what took them decades to build.
If they succeed in forcing him to declare bankruptcy, PK Kelley will lose the security clearance he needs to rebuild his life.
If forced into bankruptcy, the former Ranger will likely lose his security clearance and will be ineligible for government jobs he's applied for.
This fund will be used for a public & private communications campaign to persuade the company to drop their bullying lawsuit, to live up to their claim of being Veteran-friendly and to allow PK Kelley to rebuild with his voice, Freedom of Speech and security clearances intact.
THIS FUND PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED SUPPORT TO NAVY VETERAN PEDRO BARNES, A SURVIVOR OF THE JDOG FRANCHISE PROGRAM
Pedro Barnes is a 5-year Service-disabled Navy Veteran. He and his wife Kelly's son is a currently serving in the U.S. Army. Pedro & Kelly bought and operated a JDog Junk Removal franchise for 8 years. After falling behind on payments, the 2020 "Franchisees of the Year" were terminated and sued.
JDog has terminated more than 300 Veteran-owned franchises. They often require former franchisees to sign confidentiality agreements, forbidding them from warning other Veterans.
Your Contribution Will Help us Defend Veteran-owned Small Businesses Under Attack
Veterans and military families are being promised the American Dream and a safe path to business ownership by so-called Veteran-friendly franchises, which are endorsed by seemingly credible Veteran's organizations & publications.
In reality, many find themselves trapped in an American Nightmare... locked into a long-term contract with a business model that does not work. When their savings, and assets are depleted and they're mired in debt, the franchisors threaten and sue them to squeeze out the last possible dollars and ensure their silence with gag orders.
For many, bankruptcy means the loss of security clearances they need to resume their military and contracting jobs.
Your Contribution Will Have An Immediate Impact
This fund was established to shine the spotlight on legal attacks and intimidation of Veteran- and Service-Disabled Veteran-owned business owners under fire by "Veteran-Friendly" franchise companies like JDog Junk Removal, JDog Carpet Cleaning, and Home Franchise Concepts, franchisor of Kitchen Tune-Up, Bath Tune-Up, Advantaclean & others.
Your donation will help us source pro-bono, service-oriented and other proven legal support and representation dedicated to our defending military Veterans.
It will help send a message that the deception, mistreatment and exploitation of military veterans can no longer be hidden in the shadows; their actions will be shared with the military community & discussed in the Court of Public Opinion.
