Help Mill Lane Riding School
I am hoping to raise money to secure the future of Mill Lane Riding School. Having withstood most of the COVID pandemic so far, by borrowing large sums of money, this latest lockdown will have a long lasting negative effect on our future.
The average monthly cost to run Mill Lane Riding School is £10k. The core cost is split between rent, hay, bedding and feed.
My goal is to see through the next 3 months without having to borrow anymore funds.
As a child I learned to ride at Mill Lane Riding School, which was then owned by my gran Mrs Clarke. The school has been open for over 40 years, teaching thousands of children and adults to ride and providing a social hub for the community of Ongar and surrounding areas.
Mill Lane Riding School has brought many people together over the years. I met many of my lifelong friends through Mill Lane Riding School, and this pattern has repeated itself among each new generation of local riders. It is a place for kids to come and enjoy the countryside and the horses in a safe idyllic setting, away from the troubles of social media and technology of “modern life”.
A number of local riding schools have closed permanently in recent years, and one very local to us has just been forced to close its doors permanently this week. I really want to keep this place going for the community and the equestrian industry at large. Many of the young riders my gran and I taught over the years have go on to have their own horses, and/or work within the equestrian industry. Riding schools are at the grass roots of the equestrian industry, without riding schools the supply chain of new blood and new potential is drastically reduced.
I really hope we can weather this storm
and come out fighting on the other side
of it.
