Help Milly Mitchell Bring Diner at Dawn to Life

Hello, my name is Milly Mitchell. I am the Writer/Director of the upcoming short film Diner at Dawn. And, I am a recovering people pleaser.
Since I can remember, I’ve found it difficult to put myself first. By the time I got to college, my tendencies hadn’t changed and I became burnt out. I left my cup nearly empty by stretching and morphing to fill others. Certain choices lived in me, taking root and the disappointment of not standing up for myself became too much to bear. We all have shadows and limiting beliefs. It’s difficult to confront them. But, I found it even harder to live with them. So, when asked to write a script for class, I turned my emotions to the page.
Diner at Dawn is a gripping visual summation of how painful it was for me as a people pleaser. I gave my shadows a voice through a shadowy creature, a manifestation of our protagonist's pain.
In this story, we follow Tara, a young 20-something trying to make ends meet while hanging by a thread. We follow Tara as she stays overnight at her Aunt’s diner, trying to help the only family she has. We witness flashbacks of her struggling to stand up for herself and watch her loved ones manipulate her. But in a confrontation with the shadowy manifestation of her pain, Tara fights back and changes her fate.
We all have limiting beliefs that speak down to us, blinding us to what could be and denying us happiness yet undiscovered. The purpose of this film is to validate the internal wars people face and to encourage those that are struggling to want more for themselves, people pleasers or not.
