I am raising money for my sister Miranda. As many of you may know Miranda has been dealing with some health issues and has been told she needs to have surgery. Miranda has had TMJ issues for a few years but the past year her symptoms have become worse. Her jaw is completely locked and she has a hard time eating, talking and just doing day to day activities. She has seen many doctors, had ultrasounds, CT scan , mri imaging and finally has some answers. She was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis in her jaw as well as her jaw joints are almost completely gone. This causes pain, clicking, popping of the joint, locking of the jaw, inflammation and pain. Treatment has been a long road with over 40 injections into her jaw as well as 3 different mouth splints, and many appointments to try and open the jaw which have been unsuccessful. Last month Miranda got referred to an oral surgeon and at least had a solution to the problem. An open joint jaw surgery where they make incisions to both sides of the jaw, remove the damaged discs. They make an incision into her stomach and remove tissue that they use to make new joints and replace the damage discs with the stomach tissue. There is quite a bit of physical therapy needed after but this would give the relief she needs. The surgeon unfortunately is not in network for insurance and it is an expensive treatment. Most insurances will not cover TMJ surgery at all even with all the testing and failed treatments that she has had. The total cost is $11,600 for the surgery and after care treatment. They do not have payment plans and the cost is due up front before she is able to have the surgery she needs. She has done so much research and has been unable to find another doctor who does TMJ surgery and the ones she found also do not take insurance. She has looked all over Arizona and even surrounding states to try and find an alternative but at this point has exhausted all her options. This is her only choice but the expenses are just not possible at this time. Her and her husband are doing all they can to save as much money as possible to be able to get her the surgery she needs. If you could spare anything or even just share so that she will have a chance at getting the treatment she needs and deserves to be able to thrive it would mean the world to her. Anything will help. Miranda is not one to want to ask for help but if we can all rally together to help her during this difficult time I know she would appreciate it so much.
