Help Mitch and Kristina after Eaton Fire
Donation protected
Hi! We are Mitch and Kristina, and we are one of the many unfortunate folks that lost our house in the Eaton fire this last week. We are beyond lucky and relieved that both of us are safe, as well as our two cats (Pippi and Dax) and dog (Stevie).
We lost power in the windstorm Tuesday evening and after dark, Mitch returned home from being with his mom in the hospital (she's home and recovering now). He went outside to see all the visible planets in the sky and saw (along with some neighbors) flames on the nearby hill. As he knocked on other neighbors' doors, I called my parents in a panic who live closer to the fire (along with my grandma) and got them evacuating. In less than 20 minutes, I had all three animals in my car (poor Pippi was in a duffle bag), along with handfuls of underwear/socks, important documents and passports, all of my diabetes supplies and insulin, a couple musical instruments, pet foods, and our work bags. Everything else is gone (except for a couple of lawn flamingos...).
We love Altadena. We had recently bought our dream house (last June) and were working slowly to make it a place that we could start a family and live in for a very long time. We almost daily walked the Altadena Crest Trail behind our house with Stevie, and regularly ran the Henninger Flats trail. Our neighborhood was (and is!) full of the best neighbors, and we had really found our forever home.
It feels weird to set up something like this (you never think you'll be in this position!) but so many people have graciously reached out wanting to help. While we were thankfully insured, we do have a deductible to meet. In addition, we exercise to keep ourselves sane and in the near term will be trying to get things like running shoes.
We greatly appreciate any help, as well as all of the messages you have sent us. We are first and foremost grateful that we have the things that truly matter - each other, our fur babies, our family, and our friends. And insulin of course ;) .
Sincerely,
The Larson-Perley's
