Help Mitzi Starkweather Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Emma Ball, and I'm fundraising for one of my closest friends, Mitzi Starkweather. Mitzi is an inspiring human and the epitome of kindness. When she's not empowering others through her photography, writing, and creative endeavors, she's soaking up every minute she can with her family and friends. On July 11, 2022, Mitzi was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer (Invasive Ductile Carcinoma). Less than two weeks before, she had surgery to repair her ruptured Achilles.
In addition to this, her husband Jordan has been enduring severe, chronic health issues for over a year. More recently, he has developed intense hand/arm pain, which has become debilitating in the past month.
The coming months will mean (at least) surgery for Mitzi, physical therapy for her leg, and possibly radiation and chemo treatments. And after additional tests, Jordan's hands will likely require surgery.
Besides medical costs, Mitzi is also facing a loss of wages while she cannot work. She's a self-employed breadwinner and her job relies on her body and lots of energy to perform her photography magic. She was already facing a setback with her Achilles injury and this cancer diagnosis will add more time before she can get back to work.
My goal in organizing this fundraiser is to make sure Mitzi can go through this already taxing process without the additional stress of worrying about financial costs. Let's do what we can to make her feel cared for during this shitty time. She shows up for us - We want to show up for her!
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to help with the mounting expenses.
The funds raised will go toward:
- funds to make up for lost wages since Mitzi is the self-employed breadwinner (no medical leave or workers comp)
- medical expenses including out of pocket costs and deductibles
- unforseen charges / items not covered by insurance
- fixed business costs that must be paid so she has a business to return to on the other side of this
Please contribute if you can. No amount is too small or too large!
