Help Mohamed and His Family Get to Safety

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Meave Gallagher, and this GoFundMe is for my friend Mohamed, who, with 12 members of his family, is doing his best to survive in Gaza. They have been internally displaced and have been living in a tent for nearly one year. This evening (29 July), Mohamed showed me images of bombs that were falling just 300 meters from their "home." Understandably, their lives has become so difficult that they are asking for help to escape Gaza to start over in Egypt.

Here is Mohamed's story in his own words:
I am Mohammed Ahmed, from Rafah. I am 40 years old, a father of three young sons, Ahmed, Sami, and Abdullah, and I live with my mother, my wife, my sister, my brother, his wife, and their four children, including a newborn son, Ali.

Before the war, I was a teacher, but for over a year I have not had work. I love agriculture, and I miss our home, our olive trees, our pomegranate tree, our fig tree, our sheep and chickens. We now live in tents in Mawasi, Khan Younis, after we were displaced from our home and our house was completely destroyed. Life has become very difficult, I do not receive my salary as before and I do not have any source of income. Now we eat from the aid of humanitarian organizations. My brother is unable to work, so I am the breadwinner for his family, too. My responsibility is great.

I want to travel with my family to a safe haven in Cairo to live there. I do not want to lose my children and family, and I need your help. May God bless you all.

Financial Needs
  • 6 adult tickets to cross the border to Egypt, at $5,000 per ticket: $30,000
  • 6 children's tickets, at $2,500 per ticket: $15,000
  • Total needed to cross the border: $45,000
  • The remaining $35,000 will go toward supporting the family while they wait for the Rafah Crossing to open to all civilians; obtaining passports and transportation documents for each family member; and helping them in Egypt to establish a new life.
  • Once he has found some land in Egypt, Mohamed plans to purchase sheep and goats for wool, milk, and meat, and reestablish his family farm.

As of the January 2025 ceasefire, border-crossing costs have yet to be established by any of the involved governments. Once the Rafah Crossing is reopened for all civilian passage, we will update the costs
