Help Moki Walk Again
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Moki, my highly energetic and athletic dog, was paralyzed due to a freak injury. I need money for the cost of her surgery, hospital stay, and rehab.
Moki is the cutest, smartest, best dog in the world. She loves chasing sparkles, going for long runs, and burrowing under blankets. But due to a freak injury caused by IVDD, (intervertebral disc disease) one of the discs in her spine burst. The debris from this explosion severed her left L4 nerve root and caused internal bleeding into her spinal cord. Moki had surgery (4-level laminectomy) to remove the debris, which was compressing her spinal cord along four vertebrae (L2-L6). Now she is paralyzed from the waist down, unable to use her hind legs or control her bowel/bladder. She can’t wag her tail, stand, walk, wiggle, run, or do any of the things she loves to do. But through intense rehab, she may be able to regain these functions and return to her normal self!
No amount of money can ever add up to what Moki is worth to my family as a force of unstoppable cuteness, so we’re not going to let the numbers stop us from getting her the care she needs. However, her medical bills do place us under significant financial strain. Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it’s only a few bucks!
Here’s a breakdown of costs:
MRI - $2,300
Cost of hospital stay - $1,000 per day (she has stayed for 7 days so far)
Surgery - $4,300
Drugs - $479.28
Treatments & Assessments (with Ultrasound) - $2072
In-patient rehab - $839.75
Wheelchair Estimate: $650
TOTAL: $27,000 (plus miscellaneous costs such as modifying our home for a handicapped pet, days taken off work to drive her to the hospital, spontaneous ER visits, etc.)
