Help mom with brain cancer get much needed care

Vikki Davis is a loving mother of 2 daughters, a wife to Dave for for 27+ years and my best friend for the last 13 years. She is strong, beautiful, helpful, smart, and loves the Lord! My sweet friend was tragically diagnosed with glioblastoma last Christmas and was given a prognosis at that time of about 20 months to live. She has spent the last year fighting for more time in this life to have with family and friends and to finish raising her youngest daughter who is 16 now.

Vikki has undergone gamma knife radiation, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, two brain surgeries, as well as some medical trials to fight the cancer that is so aggressively attempting to claim her life. Despite all of these things Vikki has almost completely lost her sight, she has lost the use of the right side of her body, is wheelchair bound and needs 24/7 in home care. Her local church who was sending volunteers to help Vikki a couple of days per week, no longer feel it is safe for Vikki or their volunteers to do so, they feel she needs professional care, so the little bit of help they were getting, which was allowing Dave to work a couple of days per week is now gone. So Vikki’s husband Dave has been her 24/7 caregiver, but he has run out of paid leave days from work. As the breadwinner Dave cannot afford to take unpaid leave from work, his income pays for all of their bills and expenses. Dave and Vikki live in Phoenix Arizona, far from the help of their families in Missouri.

Please help Dave hire a full time caregiver for Vikki so he can return to work to continue to provide financially for their home, to allow Vikki someone to help her bathe, cook, make phone calls to her family and friends, and give her a companion to have daily, so she isn’t so alone. The cost for a full time caregiver runs in the range of $12,000 a year which financially is out of reach for Dave and Vikki at this time.

All of this is very hard on her 16 year old daughter as you might imagine, facing the reality of loosing her mother, watching her mother suffer so severely with cancer, and still trying to be a teenager. She has suffered some significant manifestations of depression recently as well which only add to the very real stress this family is already under. Any relief they could get would be considered a sweet mercy of God! Please keep this family in your prayers!
