Help Momin take care of his mom in Egypt
Donation protected
Hi everyone, thank you so much for taking the time to visit this GoFundMe.
My name is Jennie, I'm from New York City, and I’m raising money for my dear friend Momin Radwan. Momin and his fiancée Nermin (pronounced Ner-meen) are trying to evacuate from Gaza so they can help take care of Momin’s mother who was medically evacuated to Egypt.
Momin’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer on August 11, 2021. By the time she was diagnosed, the cancer had already spread to the lymph nodes in her armpit, therefore she needed to have surgery (mastectomy and lymphadenectomy) to remove the majority of the cancer cells. Although the surgery went well, she needed additional treatment to get rid of the remaining cancer cells. She was in the middle of undergoing chemotherapy at Augusta Victoria hospital in East Jerusalem when the war was suddenly launched. Momin’s mom had to abruptly discontinue her treatment. With barely any healthy food or clean water available, her health deteriorated rapidly. The war has caused Gaza’s healthcare system to crumble, so it was impossible for her to get proper treatment inside of Gaza.
Momin simply could not watch his mom suffer without any solution in sight. He took it upon himself to visit the Ministry of Health every day to advocate for his mom and her dire needs, even though it was about 9 kilometers from where his family had set up their tent. Finally, after 3 months of risking his life to go to the Ministry of Health every day (either on foot or sometimes by donkey cart [see clip below]), he received some amazing news on 9 March: his mom had been approved to be medically evacuated. Within a few short hours, they were saying goodbye to each other on opposite sides of the border. Although Momin’s mom is now finally receiving the medical care she needs in Egypt, she is now battling the cancer –– and other serious complications of the lack of treatment –– by herself in a strange country with no one to help her. For this reason, Momin decided to start this GoFundMe campaign so that he and his fiancée Nermin can join his mom in Egypt and help take care of her while she fights her battle with cancer.
Although their primary focus is being able to take care of Momin’s mom, being able to go to Egypt would also help Momin and Nermin start a new chapter in their lives. They are both just 23, and only graduated from university two months before the start of the war — Momin with a degree in information technology, and Nermin with a degree in business administration. They were supposed to get married on December 11, 2023, but of course they were unable to go through with these plans. This young couple will have an endless array of possibilities ahead of them, especially given the versatility of their skillsets and the trajectory of global markets, if only they are afforded a chance to fully share their talents with the world.
Your donations will cover the following:
- Fee for 2 adults to cross through Rafah into Egypt - €10,000 (or $10,900)
- Lodging and other accommodations (for approximately 6 months) - $6000
- GoFundMe and currency conversion fees - $1100
Once Momin and Nermin are able to cross into Egypt, they will find lodging and will begin exploring their longer-term options. They may pursue immigration to another country in the following months, but ultimately everything will depend on Momin's mom and her health status.
Several months ago, Momin said something that I will never forget: “we lost the luxury of dreaming.” Now, his dream is to be able to take care of his mom, to have a future with his beautiful fiancée, and to simply be afforded the luxury of truly dreaming again. We can help him make that dream come true.
Please watch this video to get a glimpse into Momin's world and hear from him in his own words.
I will be transferring all the money raised directly to Momin via cryptocurrency. We have already tried this method with some small donations and it has worked with great success.
We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support during this difficult time. Be well.
