Help Momma Leah Make It

Donation protected
Please help my Mom who is isolated and struggling to survive in  Southern California. Struggling to find work, selling food on the side of the road, starting November 12th, she will be living out of her car for the second time this year.

Since first attempting to leave her toxic marriage to my step-father, she's lost almost everything. She's worked tirelessly to overcome unbelievable traumas and hardships, but despite her efforts, she needs more help than I or my siblings alone can give.

In March this year, I went home from Vietnam to help her recover from shoulder surgery. For the first time in my life, I saw my mom living alone in a room in a shared house, unwell, unhealthy, and overwhelmed with stress. Despite doctors orders for rest she was up all day and night fighting three court cases, trying to pay her bills, and carrying immense pain.

I slept on the floor or couch and we barely had money to eat.  I held her in my arms and consoled her through a level of despair that I hope no child sees their mother through. At the same time, I lacked the resources to help her sustainably, and felt powerless alongside her.

A few months later she went missing. After not hearing from her for a month, I found out she was living in her car out of fear, during which time she went to the Emergency room for her second stress-related blood clot in ten years, and was at high-risk for a stroke.

Though she has since found a place to live, she has ran out of money to pay her rent and must be out by November 13th.

Without proper legal representation, her pending court cases have dragged on and affected even her ability work. She is currently facing injustice and, once again, homelessness and barely has access to living expenses like medical care, food, gas, or utilities.

With no family or friends within a 50-mile radius and no financial support. Her safety, health, and well-being are at stake.

The $25,000 we are requesting will go specifically to the following:

                    1. Living Expenses to avoid Homelessness- $5000
                    2. Legal Fees to Pay for her Attorney and prove her innocence in Pending Court Case- $20,000

Brief Timeline of This Year:
In October of last year My mom found the courage to leave my step-father after 23 years, but she had nowhere to go. In January 2019, an altercation took place between them and he accused her of domestic violence. She was arrested and on the same day posted $50,000 bail.

Since then she's lived on her own, exhausting all of her resources sacrificing her education, career, personal relationships, and health to seek independence and justice.

Due to the lack of support from the Public Defender and lack of funds for an attorney, she attempted to represent herself for months, and despite her efforts, the Los Angeles Superior Court and prosecution took complete advantage of her.

In July, six months after attending every hearing on time and with no further violations, she discovered the court worked in tandem with the prosecution to open a new court case under a new judge and case number, held a pre-trial and issued an additional bail amount of $80,000 for the same alleged event without notifying her.

She discovered only by accident this was happening behind her back.

Afraid if she showed up to the court they would throw her in jail, she used her power of attorney to have a representative appear on her behalf.

Despite following all procedures, the court denied her legal representative, added $30,000 to the $80,000 issued and $50,000 posted bail(s)  (Totaling $160,000), issued a warrant for her arrest and a wanted bulletin via the LA County Sherrif's Office.

Terrorized and Traumatized, She Went into Hiding
Terrified she would be unlawfully subject to injustice and traumatized by her experience with my Step-Father and the Los Angeles Superior Court, she fled home and went into hiding.

For weeks I couldn't find her. I contacted everyone, and I was afraid she was kidnapped or murdered.

During this time, my Step-father and brother went on a public campaign to smear her name, sharing a wanted poster with every family member, friend, or connection she has.

She needed the assistance of a skilled and knowledgeable attorney so, while in hiding, she used up all of her credit taking out bad loans and every penny of her savings to gather money and pay  $6,500 to secure an attorney for her pre trial.

Thanks to his knowledge and experience the judge exonerated the additional Bail amounts, removed her warrants and discontinued the wanted bulletins.***

However, to keep the Attorney through the trial, it will cost at least $20,000 more.

What help Does She Still Need Now?
Thanks to her resourcefulness and her attorney's experience, she is still free today, but on top of what she needs just to keep food on the table and a roof over her head, she needs to pay for her attorney to go with her to trial.

Although free until trial, she is now homeless, struggling to find work with a pending felony case, and thus unable to pay for her living expenses or legal counsel.

Thats why we are calling on you, friends, family, and loved ones who know and can attest to my mother's character to help her prove her innocence and maintain her basic needs.

The $25,000 we are requesting will go specifically to the following:

                    1. Living Expenses to avoid Homelessness- $5000
                    2. Legal Fees to Pay for her Attorney and prove her innocence in Pending Court Case- $20,000

A personal Statement about my Parents
As many people can attest to, my mom has lived for 55-years with no prior criminal record or history of violence.

She spent years as an accomplished daycare owner for welfare recipient families, impacting hundreds of kid's and families' lives with her compassion, kindness, and understanding; an upstanding, law-abiding citizen and woman of faith; a dutiful, dedicated mother of six children and 4 grandkids; and a trustworthy and respected friend and role model to countless people.

She spent years as a meditation practitioner teaching meditation in China and the USA, living and emulating a life of peace and harmony.

Though she is far from perfect, it is not in her character to be violent, vindictive, or intentionally harmful.

My step-father, on the other hand, has a clear record of psychological and physical abuse, lies, and manipulation.

Beginning in 1995, He terrorized us kids laying his hands on us many times. The effects he has had on our psychological well-being are far reaching and still present with us today.

As early as 5 years old, I have memories of being dragged by my hair, picked up by my neck and thrown outside, smacked, kicked, forced to eat things or engage in cruel and unusual physical and psychological punishments, having items thrown at me,  and watching in horror as the same happened to my siblings.

As is in his character, he has worked tirelessly to isolate her from all of her friends and family and go on a long standing and intentional campaign to smear her name and obstruct her from justice.

When I visited her she was living in  total secrecy, literally terrified of him like we were as children.

Help My Family Heal
I do believe in true, divine Justice, and for my family and my mother: it is time.

My Step-father has been a source of intense and deep trauma and wounds that have sent ripples into our lives and torn my family apart.

When my mom is finally free from him and able to stand on her own two feet, we will all be able to heal.
