HELP MONICA RETURN HOME
Donation protected
The family of Monica Ernst is reaching out to you to share her story and seek your support. Monica is 55 years old and has been fighting significant medical issues over the last decade which has left her unable to walk. Her medical conditions include a spinal cord injury, spasticity, and cervical myopathy. She has endured multiple surgeries over the years including 3 back surgeries, 3 neck surgeries, as well as, other surgeries from falls resulting from her medical conditions (including several head injuries, 2 broken shoulders, and a broken wrist).
On May 3, 2024, after much coaxing, Monica agreed to make a trip to Phoenix, Arizona (from her home in Sardinia, Ohio) to visit her daughter. This is the first trip she attempted since her medical issues began a decade ago. After visiting for only one day, Monica went into a long and severe tremor and could not breathe. She was hospitalized and is still in the hospital today, 5/29/24. During her stay, 14 days was in ICU. She had multiple severe episodes in ICU when she came close to not making it.
Monica was initially diagnosed with tremors from her central nervous system, pulmonary edema, and her heart not functioning correctly. The tremors happen often and are extremely painful. They affect her whole body and last up to 45 minutes. She is barely able to breath during the episodes.
Eventually, he doctors called in specialists and they determined that the tremors are actually seizures from her sympathetic nervous system, not tremors from her central nervous system. They started giving her different medication and it has helped a lot, but have not stopped the seizures completely. They are also giving her heart medicine which has improved her heart function.
Monica is a loving and caring person who has already endured enough health and medical issues for a lifetime. Monica wants nothing more than to return to her HOME, in Sardinia, Ohio. Unfortunately, she has to have a medical transport in order to do so. With a medical transfer, they will be able to give her the medication she needs if and when she has a seizure. This is extremely costly, from $25,000 to $50,000.
Insurance will not cover the cost of the medical transport and the cost is not within Monica’s budget. We are asking for your help in her time of need. Every donation, no matter what size, will go directly towards the cost of getting Monica home!! She needs to be near family and friends.
Your contribution will alleviate the financial strain and help Monica focus on getting well!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Monica’s family
