Monty’s health took a sudden turn on January 3rd, shortly after my sister, Tessa, and her partner, Alex, returned from vacation. Monty, who usually greets them with his loving purrs and excitement, wasn’t himself. He refused his favorite treats, stayed hidden, and struggled with sneezing and labored breathing. Concerned, Tessa monitored him closely through the night, but his condition worsened. By the next morning, he hadn’t eaten, drank water, or used his litter box, and his breathing remained difficult.

When Monty finally got into the vet, the news was devastating. He had a severe urethral obstruction—a blockage that prevented him from urinating, putting his life in immediate danger. The vet confirmed that his bladder was swollen and at risk of bursting, which would have been fatal.
