Help Moodi Secure His Future After College

Hello everyone,
My name is Mahmoud (or Moodi) Elawady, and I am a Junior at Cornell College pursuing a double major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as Computer Science. I have embarked on an incredible journey here in the United States thanks to a scholarship opportunity that has allowed me to pursue my dreams and passions.
However, amidst the excitement of academic pursuits, there is always a lingering worry in the back of my mind – the obligation of military service back in my home country of Egypt. Despite being away for the past three years, the looming requirement of military enlistment has been a constant source of stress and uncertainty for me, especially when it is connected to being jailed for two years for escaping the service.
Today, I woke up to news that could potentially change everything for me. Egypt has re-launched an initiative aimed at settling the military service status of expatriates like myself. This initiative offers a two-month application window starting May 1st, providing a chance for male Egyptian expatriates aged 18 and above, including those like myself who have surpassed the typical conscription age of 30, to resolve their military service obligations.
This opportunity is nothing short of life-changing for me. Having not seen my family since I graduated from the African Leadership Academy in South Africa two years ago, the thought of finally being able to reunite with them fills me with indescribable joy. However, the path to this reunion is not without its obstacles.
As a student on scholarship here in the US, navigating the complexities of paperwork and military service requirements has been a challenge. Despite providing proof of my studies, the fear of facing legal repercussions upon my return home has been a constant burden. The initiative provides a solution – a chance to permanently settle my military service status by paying a fee of $10,000.
Your support means everything to me. By contributing to this fundraiser, you are not just helping me secure my future and ensure my academic pursuits remain uninterrupted, but you are also helping me fulfill the longing to see my family again, to hold them close, and to share in the moments that I have missed dearly.
With your generosity, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that I will be able to return home without the looming threat of legal repercussions hanging over me. Every donation, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to the embrace of my loved ones and the chance to build a future where I can pursue my dreams without restraint.
Thank you for reading my story and for your kindness in helping me embark on this journey back home. Together, we can make this reunion a reality.
Warm regards,
Mahmoud (Moodi) Elawady
