Help Moon fight a severe respiratory infection (snuffles)
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Caitlin and I'm fundraising on behalf of my rabbit Moon, who is in need of urgent veterinary care.
On March 22nd, we bought Moon home from pets at home. He was housed on sawdust, with bright lights shining on him. There were numerous dogs jumping up at him and the other rabbits while we were there, as the rabbits are housed right at the front near the checkouts. He only had access to a few tiny hides to attempt to get away and relieve his stress. He was sold as 8 weeks old, but the staff were unsure of his actual age and what his breed was. They seemed eager to get rid of him, and when we got him home he instantly showed signs that he was ill. He was sneezing, had weepy eyes and had thick yellow mucus coming from his nose. These were all visual signs that would have easily been picked up on, had the staff member not been in a rush and performed a thorough health check.
We have had to bring him to the vets numerous times since then, including multiple emergency vet visits. On one of these visits he required oxygen. He has been officially diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection being caused by the Bordetella bacteria. This is commonly referred to as snuffles. This is a serious illness, and is often fatal if left untreated. However, as this was unexpected, I have quickly ran out of funds to be able to continue his treatment. I have had to spend hundreds on antibiotics, pain relief, anti-inflammatories and probiotics, alongside a costly swab to determine the cause of his infection. In his current state, Moon is struggling to breathe. He is extremely congested, with a wet, snotty nose. He is also having aggressive sneezing fits consistently. Rabbits can only breathe through their nose, they do not mouth breathe. This means that if his condition goes downhill any further, he could enter respiratory distress and I will need to be able to access emergency vet treatment instantly to be able to save his life.
Moons treatment is ongoing and I am in desperate need of funds to be able to keep his treatment going and give him the best quality of life as I possibly can. Without this treatment, he is likely to pass. Any funds will be used towards veterinary bills such as paying for his medication, emergency treatment and any further tests if he requires them (such as x-rays). It is also likely that he has GI issues on top of the snuffles, potentially having megacolon disease. Funds may also be used to help in that regard, should he have a GI crisis such as gut stasis.
Any donation is greatly appreciated, and will help to save moons life. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you cannot donate sharing is just as appreciated. Thank you <3
