Help Mopsey Get the Medical Care She Desperately Needs!

Meet our mini Mopsey, a confident and lovable 1-year-old Wire Hair Terrier mix who weighs just 11 lbs. Mopsey’s journey to our shelter is a tale of resilience and hope. Mopsey spent the first year of her life in a puppy mill, confined to a tiny cage with three of her siblings, with only a piece of cardboard for comfort. When she was abandoned at our shelter, she was terrified of humans and the world outside her cage. She cowered in fear, not knowing how to trust or play.

But Mopsey's story took a hopeful turn thanks to our dedicated volunteers. They worked tirelessly to show her love and kindness, and slowly, Mopsey began to trust us. She discovered the joy of cuddles and the comfort of gentle touch. Over time, she blossomed into the sweet, affectionate, and playful pup she was always meant to be. Today, Mopsey adores people, gets along well with other dogs, and has become the shelter’s little bundle of joy.

Despite her progress, Mopsey is now facing a serious health battle. During her initial intake medical examination, our vets discovered she has severe hip dysplasia, causing her immense pain and difficulty walking, a common ailment affecting puppy mill dogs. Additionally, Mopsey’s right eye doesn’t produce tears and suffers from ingrown eyelashes (on the internal eyelid) in both eyes, leading to constant irritation and significant discomfort. Heartbreakingly, the only solution to relieve her suffering is to remove her right eye. To make matters more difficult, Mopsey’s left eye will require lifelong expensive medication.

To give Mopsey the pain-free life she deserves, she needs a series of urgent surgeries, including a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) to restore mobility to her damaged hip, and the removal of her right eye. These procedures, along with ongoing treatments and medications, will cost approximately $6,500—a daunting amount for our non-profit shelter already caring for many other animals.

We are reaching out to our compassionate Arlington Heights and surrounding community to help us raise the funds necessary for Mopsey’s medical care. Your generous donations will directly contribute to her surgeries and rehabilitation, giving her the chance to run, play, and live without pain.

• $25 will cover a week of eye medication to alleviate severe irritation.

• $50 will cover a week of pain medication to keep Mopsey comfortable.

• $100 will go towards the cost of her hip and eye removal surgery.
