Help Moriah Go To Howard University
Hi, my name is Moriah Hamilton, I am a 19-year-old resident of Sophia in Greater Georgetown, Guyana who is full of energy and vision. I had always dreamt of attending university so, when Howard University decided to offer me a partial scholarship to major in Civil Engineering and minor in communications I was overjoyed.
The total cost of my attendance is $45,000 USD and Howard has awarded me with a scholarship of $19,000 USD, which leaves $26,000 USD to be paid each year. Unfortunately, my single parent mother of three is unable to cover the cost for my attendance and have decided to reach out to the public, government and companies for financial assistance.
The journey to this point has been incredibly rough; financial difficulties and unfortunate circumstances made my life a rollercoaster of endless hurdles and challenges. After being homeless twice, attending university seemed virtually impossible!
But it is my mother's faith and my passion and determination that kept the dream alive. Despite my absences at school and dire housing situation I was able to achieve six ones and six twos at the CXC exams and was granted admission at Queen's College to pursue CAPE. There, I achieved 1st Place on the Merit list for Green Engineering in the Caribbean at CAPE and in the 2nd year I achieved 4th place in
the Caribbean.
My achievements have allowed to stand as a beacon for individuals who strive to reach their fullest potentials despite the communities or identities that are 'supposed' to determine the extent of your success. I propel this narrative through my volunteerism and activism with the Youth in Natural Resources initiative, as a Climate Change Youth Ambassador for UNICEF, the Girl Build Girl Foundation and my green engineering page @green_tea_gy.
Through my volunteerism, activism and education at Howard I pledge to be an agent of change in Guyana's green and sustainable development. I hope that the community will be inspired by my story and help me to fulfill my dream to attend Howard University.
Donations of any amount are sincerely Appreciated!
