Help MoringaConnect Rebuild After Fire!

Donation protected
On the morning of Saturday, April 27, a fire broke out at MoringaConnect's  processing factory in New Longoro in a very rural area of Ghana. The fire started in the dryer room, and smoke filled the room too quickly for the team to put the fire out with fire extinguishers, and the fire burned through the rest of the building before the fire service could get there.

Unfortunately, the fire caused over $200k in damage, destroying the factory building, machinery, and $60k worth of moringa leaf powder that MoringaConnect was planning to move to Accra for export to the USA. Pictures and videos of the fire and its aftermath can be seen here.

This campaign is to raise funds to help the MoringaConnect team rebuild their factory building and replace the machinery that is critical to their operations.  As of December 31, 2018, MoringaConnect employed a total of 155 people — 97 permanent employees and 58 temporary employees. Many of those people were working at the factory or the nearby farm and are dependent on the income generated from the factory's production, so we want to help MoringaConnect get back on its feet quickly!

In 2018 alone, MoringaConnect sourced from 859 suppliers. In addition, 1,822 smallholder farmers, 44% of whom were women, received training in sustainable agricultural practices, advice on how to incorporate moringa into their everyday meals for a healthier diet, and financial literacy training through Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) that Moringa Connect helped to form. Since the company was founded in 2013, MoringaConnect has reached over 5,400 farmers and trained over 2,100 farmers.

MoringaConnect's senior leadership and the Chief of the New Longoro community are all committed to rebuilding the factory and are trying to stay positive, but they cannot do it alone and need financial support. Let's do what we can to help out and get this amazing social enterprise back in operation as soon as possible!

MCE Social Capital  has been supporting MoringaConnect as a lender since early 2018. We are working closely with their team through this very difficult time, trying to be as supportive as possible. We will make sure all donations received go directly to MoringaConnect.
