Help Support Mum of 3, Shot 4 Times & Left Disable

Donation protected

Hi my name is Stephanie, and I am trying to raise money for a beautiful friend of mine which I'll refer to as Amy to protect her safety.

Amy moved to Australia in 2008 and as a mother of 3, she was working as a makeup artist and hairdresser. However, In July 2023 when she went to Ethiopia to visit her family and go on a holiday when her partner and father of their two youngest children flew over to join, with the intentions of having access to purchase a gun and take Amy's life. One evening he took Amy out for a drive on the mountains in a rural area. He pulled over and told her this was gonna be her last day, that he was going to kill her, take the kids and nobody will find her and that he will tell her parents that she went missing. Amy started begging God to save her life as he pulled out a gun and shot her in the leg, she got out of the car and then he followed her around the car and shot her in the legs another 3 times as she tried to run away begging for her life. Amy fell to the ground and started to lose consciousness as he drove off leaving her for dead. Thankfully a good Samaritan found her after hearing gunshots, called for help, wrapped her legs up with his clothes and got her to a hospital where time was crucial. Amy had lost a lot of blood, they only 30 mimutes left to save her life. They ended up giving 21 blood transfusions, spending 6hours in surgery where chunks of her muscle and tissue were missing and having permanent nerve damage. However they were unable to remove all the bullets.

Amy has been brought back to Melbourne Australia and has been in a women's refuge for over 7 months, where she hasn't been receiving adequate support for her needs and disability. She was having to sleep on the floor for months due to pain and the mattress causing the leftover bullet in her leg to hurt if she slept on their beds. She asked for a suitable topping for the mattress and it took 5 months for them to organise. Amy needs at least 3 surgeries to remove the bullet and repair more of the damage, which she just cannot afford.

Amy also needs a wheelchair, however the refuge have said they don't have the funding. She was transferred to another refuge where they placed her on a first floor, where she cannot get down stairs and when the lift isnt working she is stuck. There's no kitchen space or cooking area in her room and shes not even allowed to eat in her room or bring any food in there. Amy struggles to walk without various aids and needs physio, acupuncture, massages and treatments to help her recovery as she is in alot of pain and has restricted movement. However, due to her limited income she hasnt been able to afford any of these treatments or even to physically get to her medical appointments. Amy has missed them due to this, causing more pain and damage in her legs. With little support and the lift not working sometimes, it prevents her being able to get to necessary appointments.

Amys two youngest children are stuck in another country with her family until she can get her surgery to be able to physically care for and have suitable safe housing for them. They miss each other so much and it's been heartbreaking as they keep asking when they can come be with their mum again.

The man responsible for this incident is still overseas in hiding and authorites in both countries have been alerted and are aware of the situation so that he cannot come back to Australia.

I am doing all I can and it's been alot harder than I thought to try and get her support. Everywhere we have reached out to feels like a dead end and gets us no where. It took over 6 months to even get a support letter from the hospital for her recommendations.

If you’re in a position to do so, please consider contributing to this page to help Amy's recovery and to reunite with her children so they can get stability, security and safety again. Every contribution, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated, and will make a meaningful difference.

If you can't make a donation, it would be great if you could please share the fundraiser to help spread the word
