What is this About?
Your donation will support the Mount Nebo community to fund expert, independent bushfire risk modelling of the area surrounding Mt Nebo. This knowledge will empower us to drive mitigation, prevention and preparedness activities within our community. The results of this modelling project will be delivered in June/July 2024, at a workshop for the Mt Nebo community at the Mt Nebo Hall.
Who is fundraising for this project?

What does this project deliver?
The Bushfire Risk Assessment will give us a current and comprehensive overview of fuel load and predictive fire behaviour as modelled under different scenarios. This information will be made available to:
- The householders of Mt Nebo so that they can better understand their properties bushfire risk, where necessary undertake fire mitigation activities, and develop individual household bushfire plans.
- The local community organisations in order to undertake community education activities regarding fire behaviour and risk, support advocacy efforts with government agencies at all levels, and develop future strategies for community fire resilience.
- And government agencies at all levels so that fire mitigation activities can be refined and better targeted in our locality.
We’d like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this area - the Jinibara people, and their cultural fire practices that have been used with deep knowledge and great skill for many thousands of years, to shape the forests and landscapes where we live.
We value our mountain lifestyle and our natural environment, which is home to incredibly beautiful flora and fauna, some of considerable conservation significance. The Bushfire Risk Assessment will assist us to better protect it into the future.
