HELP MOVIE THEATER MAGIC!

Donation protected

The COVID-19 disaster has been harmful for all businesses, and Decatur, Illinois iconic Avon Theater is no exception!

Help The Avon re-open when it is allowed. Expenses for the theater continue, while income has been zero during the COVID-19 forced closure.

The Avon Theater was first opened in 1916 as a silent movie house. It was one of the top theaters in Decatur, Illinois until the mall and multiplex craze in the 1980's. It was closed in 1986, and left empty and dark until 1999 when the Huston family re-opened it to great success. A Twin theater annex next door was added in 2004, now giving the Avon 3 screens.

Currently, the Hustons are in their 22nd year of operation, and have defied all odds for a Ma & Pa theater to not only survive, but to prosper. The theater is run very "old school" with family and long-time staff, and specializing in incredible gourmet popcorn. It is a "first-run" theater, which is very rare for a Ma & Pa in a competitive situation, but the Avon competes against the big guys very well!

Now, rent and utilities are almost 4 months behind, and the Avon has received only minimal help from the various grant and loan packages that are available.

Please help a 22 year old family business!
