"Hi, my name is Estee Jackson, but my 6th graders better know me as Ms.Jackson. I am an English teacher in the Baltimore Public School System. Although my career can be challenging at times, giving back to my community and feeding my students' brains has rewarded me in all aspects of my life.
Since August, I have been teaching in-person and getting my students back to their routine. I was exposed to multiple known COVID-positive students that were asymptomatic. Unfortantely, I contracted COVID resulting in my admission to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU). When I was exposed to COVID, my heart stopped functioning correctly and was diagnosed with Cardiogenic Shock. This condition has required me to go on and off mechanical life support.
I been in the ICU for ten days in counting, in that short time my life has changed in undescribable ways. I have became completely dependent on others. Everyday simple tasks, are no longer "'simple.'" Without the help of the nurses, physical therapist, and occupational therapist I cannot brush my teeth, turn in bed, or even feed myself. I require full time care.
Any donation will be appricated as my rehabiliation may take up to a year. Thank you in advance.
Ms. Jackson"
