Ms. Heather has been an exemplary pre-kindergarten teacher for 20+ years and has made a meaningful impact in the lives of our kids. She takes additional care for kids with learning disabilities and creates an environment where they feel empowered. She is a kind, cheerful person, welcomes kids with joy every morning, and ensures they enjoy every moment in her pre-school. She is loved by all the kids and colleagues. She never missed a day in school in the past.

The kids have all missed Ms. Heather’s presence lately. Unfortunately, we learnt that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and BRCA2 mutations. Even more devastating was the diagnosis of pre-cancerous lesions in her pancreas and liver, and a high risk for ovarian cancer. She has already undergone 2 surgeries and has 1 more lined up. Being the sole bread-winner and single mom providing for her family of 4, this has drained her family emotionally and financially.

But Ms. Heather has been so strong, gracious and looks forward to continue her work. She has passionately helped our community in many different ways, including helping feed the needy, teaching post-incarcerated adults with dyslexia to read, supporting patients/families affected by Crohn's disease. Her attitude and devotion to making the lives of others better is an inspiration to many of us. Not all of you reading this have had a chance to meet Ms. Heather yet. Rest assured that, if and when you do, you'll appreciate why those of us who know her well want to help ease the financial stress that she and her family face.
