Help Mujtaba's Family Escape the war in Sudan

"We are one of the countless victims of Sudan's ongoing, forgotten war. My name is Mujtaba, and I have autism. I speak on behalf of my family, especially for my younger sister and myself, who are both autistic.

Before the war, we were a simple, happy family living in peace. I lived with my mother, brother, and two sisters. My younger sister is also autistic, but her condition is less severe than mine. For the past 16 months, we have endured the horrors of war, holding on to the hope that it would end soon. Instead, it has only grown worse.

My father abandoned us at the beginning of the war, leaving all responsibilities to my brave mother. My older sister used to bake and sell biscuits in our neighborhood to sustain us. However, our neighborhood is now deserted—people have either fled or been killed.

Every day, I collect empty bullet shells from our yard, counting each as a reminder of the times my family and I narrowly escaped death. On my twelfth birthday, my family woke me up at night to celebrate. Startled, I ran to hide under my bed, thinking it was another attack. It took me a moment to realize it was only my birthday.

We desperately need $18,527 to leave Sudan and start anew in Rwanda, where my aunt lives. Being close to family during this time is crucial for us, and Rwanda offers us a chance to continue our education in safety. This amount will cover the costs of travel, obtaining passports, and helping us maintain our dignity in Rwanda until we can stand on our own feet.

سوف أتكلم بلسان أكثر الأفراد معاناة في هذه الأسرة وهو طفلهم (مجتبى) المصاب بالتوحد.

اسمي مجتبى، وأنا مصاب بالتوحد. قبل الحرب كنا أسرة بسيطة وسعيدة، أعيش مع أمي وأخي وأختين. أختي الصغرى مصابة أيضًا بالتوحد لكنها أفضل حالًا مني. نحن نعيش في الحرب منذ 16 شهرًا. تحملنا الشهور الأولى على أمل أن تنتهي الحرب، لكنها تزداد سوءًا يومًا بعد يوم.

هرب والدي منذ بداية الحرب ليعيش حياته وتركنا هنا بين رائحة الموت، متخليًا عن كل المسؤولية لأمي. أختي الكبرى كانت تصنع البسكويت وتبيعه في الحي. هكذا عشنا طوال الأشهر السابقة، أما الآن فنحن وحدنا. لا حي ولا أشخاص ليشتروا البسكويت، لأن الجميع هرب بطريقته أو قُتل.

أصبحت هوايتي الجديدة هي التقاط بقايا الطلقات الفارغة من ساحة منزلنا لأحسب عدد المرات التي نجوت فيها وأسرتي من الموت. أيقظتني أسرتي ليلاً في عيد ميلادي الثاني عشر ليهنئوني. استيقظت مفزوعًا وهرولت نحو السرير للاختباء تحته، وأخذت وقتًا قليلًا حتى استوعبت أن هناك ليست قنبلة، إنه فقط عيد ميلادي.

نحتاج 18,527 دولارًا لنتمكن من النجاة والخروج خارج السودان ونبدأ حياتنا في مكان آخر جديد. اخترنا رواندا لأن خالتي هناك سوف تساعدنا بالسكن والتسجيل في المدارس والعودة إلى تعليمنا، ولأواصل رحلة علاجي من التوحد في مكان آمن. هذا المبلغ يشمل تكاليف السفر واستخراج الجواز، ومن ثم مبلغًا كافيًا لحفظ كرامتنا في رواندا لمدة 3 أشهر."
