HELP MY BEAUTIFUL MUM GET A MOTORISED WHEELCHAIR

Hi my Name is Casey & I am fund-raising for my Mum Kim.

Mum was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) in February 2022. Due to her condition, she has no independent mobility and rely on others for all her personal care and daily living needs, including transfers and mobility.

Mum has been in an aged care facility in Caboolture since May 2022 and is bed bound, with no access to independent mobility as the facility is not funded to provide the custom power wheelchair that I need.

She wants to live in her home with her husband, however multiple applications to the NDIS have been unsuccessful & no other sustainable funding has been identified that would support her to return home to Bribie Island. We are continuing to explore the NDIS through external appeal and have been told this is a very lengthy process, with the outcome unknown.

Mum has been fitted for a power wheelchair and completed a successful trial. However, the barrier she now faces is self-funding the wheelchair, which has been quoted at $27,486.80. Mum is on a disability support pension, and doesn't have the financial means to self-fund the power wheelchair, and no state or federal funding options have been identified.

A power wheelchair would mean she could be independently mobile in the place that is her current home and she could leave the facility to interact with her husband who is currently battling Leukaemia, family, friends, attend MERT therapy and be amongst her local community. This would have a significant impact on Mum's dignity and quality of life.
