HELP MY BROTHER'S FAMILY LAUGH AND SMILE AGAIN

Donation protected
My name is Filip and I started this fundraiser for my brother's wife Vanja Bugarski. She is Kolja's mother and Vladan's wife, a woman with a cheerful spirit and a big heart. Last year, her world turned upside down.

This is her story.

In June of 2022, she was diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer (stage IV), after which a right hemicolectomy with terminal intertransverse anastomosis was performed. After the surgery, systemic chemotherapy with FOLFOX was started, which continued for nine months (16 applications). Chemotherapy was successful because PET CT and the colonoscopy were without signs of disease, so she stopped the treatment. That was great news and a big relief for all of us. Unfortunately, it didn't last long... At the beginning of June, this year, she felt pain in her stomach. Given that results from PET CT and colonoscopy were not that long ago, no one, including doctors, expected that the disease would return. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened. After control, an MSCT scan showed the progression of the disease with further peritoneal dissemination ("omental cake") and clinical signs of intestinal sub-occlusion, which is why she needed to be hospitalized. She can't eat properly, thus she "takes food" intravenously (parental nutrition), nor can she defecate spontaneously.
On June 29, 2023, she started chemotherapy treatment again with the FOLFIRI protocol.

Due to BRAF V-600 mutation, doctors advised new therapy which is a combination of two medicines: Cetuximab and Encorafenib. One of these medicines (Encorafenib) is not available in the country where Vanja's family live, and the other one (Cetuximab) is, but because the Encorafenib isn't even approved, medical insurance can't provide the Cetuximab and now they must pay for both on their own.

These medicines target the BRAF gene, preventing it to give signals to certain cells to keep dividing and growing which leads to the development of a tumour.

Encorafenib and Cetuximab are pretty expensive (around 3000€ for 2 weeks). At this point, doctors can't tell us for how long she must take those medicines and Vanjas's family doesn't have enough money to provide them to her every week, which is the reason we are starting this fundraiser.

Thank you for taking the time for reading this.
