Help my Hardworking Dad Avoid Eviction

Hi everyone,

This holiday season I’m writing to ask for help for my dad, who’s 61 and facing an eviction emergency. My dad has always been one of the hardest-working people I know. In the past he has run his own salon and for the past decade he’s had a career working as a hairstylist, restaurant host, in retail, and more... and even as he approaches retirement this coming April, he plans to keep working part-time to support himself. But right now, things have taken a sharp turn.

For the past 10 years, my dad has relied on disability benefits (due to multiple physical impairments that prevent him from working full time) to supplement his income while he worked. Earlier this year, his benefits were cut off after he earned $1,555 in ONE month. This is only 55 dollars over the income limit for disability benefits. This has happened only one month in the last decade, which abruptly put an end to his benefits. He’s since applied to 79 jobs, determined to make up the difference, but the job market hasn’t been kind to him at this stage in his life. I'm not kidding, he has been dressing up and hand-delivering resumes looking for employment.

Now, he’s facing eviction and needs $3,000 to cover rent for this month and the next. This money will give him the time and stability he needs to transition into retirement and find part-time work.
