My Daddy passed away
Donation protected
UPDATE: With a heavy heart, I'm updating the GoFundMe to state that my Daddy passed away on Feb 6th, at home with me and my Mom, his son-in-law and two grand-daughters by his side as he wanted. He couldn't recover fully from this, he tried and fought so hard but he went through too much from the lack of dialysis and the rest of the story that ensued. I'm his only child, and my Mom is his wife of 45 years. We are devastated. Any funds donated and continued to be received will help us through all of this from his funeral to basic living and counseling help. Thank you.
I'm Veronica, the daughter of Alberto Guerrero. My Dad has had stage-4 kidney failure for 5 years now and has been on Dialysis ever since then, 3x per week. On Tuesday January 2022, he had a mild soar throat and mentioned it to the Davita Dialysis center in Largo FL who then said he was not allowed to come in as he might have COVID and would only administer a COVID test on him, and not give him the regular Dialysis he was supposed to get that day. We were told as long as he is not experiencing severe symptoms of missing Dialysis then it would be OK for him to skip this treatment, but we expected they would take him the very next day. Instead the COVID test took 2 full days to get results back to us and it came out positive which meant the Dialysis Center would for sure not accept him. We had no choice but to bring him to the ER just so he could get Dialysis, as it had now been too long going without it. His soar throat was gone and he was walking when we brought him to the hospital. While in the hospital, he rapidly got worse and now is immobile. He had 1.5 liters of fluid build up in his lungs due to lack of dialysis, and then pneumonia found. He was treated and finally after 7 days in the hospital, discharged as his vitals were now stable and with family pressure to get him out as he was not doing well there at all with lack of proper food & sleep and not allowed to see any of us since he was in the COVID area.

My Dad is now out of the hospital in my house in my kid's bedroom, as his current apartment has stairs and he cannot even stand on his own anymore, which we pray is temporary and that he will regain his strength. I am not able to lift him on my own with my Mom, and we need help to change him and to take his medications and to eat. Right now I urgently need help with an at-home Caregiver and I need to get a new Apartment for my parents that is on ground floor as my toddler is now sleeping in the living room, and I also have a 7 month old baby at home. I have been researching and will continue to do so and find programs for elderly and insurance help, but this is a process and I truly need help on an immediate basis in case those options take too long or the programs don't exist for what we need.
For a very basic non-fancy 1 bedroom apartment the current costs are around $1250 per month which is a $400 monthly increase from what my parents are currently paying and can afford and I need to get them into one of these apartments asap which will most likely have a 1 year lease. An at home caregiver can cost $25/hour so these costs can add up, as well as I have been pulled fully off work and my Husband is now only partially working since I have needed his help with the kids or with my dad directly. I never have asked for money, I feel awful having to do this but I already pay for several regular monthly expenses for my parents and truly need help now. Thank you.
