Help My Dad Get Home - Long Term Care Needed

Please help us Manifest a Miracle.
My dad is fighting for his life.

While visiting with family in Massachusetts my dad fell and was hurt very badly. He was rushed to the hospital and was taken directly to the ICU in critical condition.

We need help funding Medical Air Transportation  from Massachusetts back home to Michigan where my dad can be back home where he belongs. He will need to go to a  rehabilitation/recovery facility that will actually help him instead of giving up on him. Insurance won’t cover transport to get him home.

I’m scared and my minds running through thousands of scenarios.
I am determined to help my dad get better
but we need help getting him home.

This nightmare happened on May 5th 2019

My phone rang.
This was the call where silence
greets you on the other end.

I heard a deep breathe followed by a very soft, slow, and apologetic explanation of how my dad lost his balance, stumbled forward, and fell.
Repeating to me  “It’s not good” .

What Happened ?

My dad was leaving my step brothers beautiful house in Massachusetts after a short visit. As he walked across the down sloped yard towards the car he stumbled forward and fell. He hit his face on the ground causing 2 of his upper vertebrae’s in his neck to break. His heart stopped and he died on the grass in the front yard next to the car. CPR was given until EMS saved him.

Our Time at the Hospital

He was taken to the ICU and hooked up to life support. My dad was not breathing on his own. Sedatives and cooling blankets were laid on him for a few days to regulate his temperature.

I flew to Massachusetts.

At the hospital when I went into his room for the first time,  My stomach instantly felt sick and my heart started to race.

I was taking short breathes and my hands were sweaty. I was afraid to walk up to him.

Until that point it wasn’t real to me, but that quickly changed.

Doctors said it would take time and just stay hopeful. So we did. And every day we hung out with him and we seen progress daily.

I didn’t want to leave his side. At first he didn’t do anything. The next day his foot would twitch, then a finger, then his eyebrows.

The first time he opened his eyes it was very intense for us to see him do that. We were Almost in shock “he’s waking up”!!!

But, the doctors say they call that “lights on but no one is home”

Never Give Up.

Up to this point, some hope was given from the doctors. They had been saying to be hopeful and just give it time.

It only took about a week for them to give up their hope and advised us to give up that little bit of hope we have been holding onto as well.

They believe he is never going to wake up.

But I know better, I know he will. Every day he is making progress.

My dad is what the doctors call unresponsive. He has been this way since May 5th and from the doctors perspective he isn’t improving as much or as quickly as they would like.

I know every once in awhile he shows me a mini response with a facial expression but it’s not enough for the doctors.

I know what I saw. He is improving, he is getting better.

About day 12 into recovery his doctor said he is paralyzed from the neck down but it may be temporary if it’s just interference from his neck injury and time will tell.

It has been a roller coaster of emotions having hope given and taken away with every other interaction with the doctors.

The hospital has been inconsistent about prognosis,  the war between administrative and medical staff adding to our stress. It’s ridiculous.

Today, May 21st he is able to open his eyes and look around and move his mouth. He can make facial expressions. He can give kisses and move his legs slightly. It’s only a matter of time.

Our Plan

We want to get him out of that hospital and Fly him back home where he belongs. My dad is strong and  I know He is going to prove that doctor wrong.

My Dad is stuck in a different state with strangers who only help him because it’s their job. They don’t seem to care much. They have done all they can do and since it’s been 2 weeks they have told us to give up.

- if you know me, that’s not something I do.

We found a local rehabilitation recovery facility with a 70% record of weaning patients from the ventilator. They have many success stories on the wall about people defying doctor’s orders and recovering.

This is where he needs to be.
We need to get him to this place so they can help him.

Please help my Dad,
We just want him to come back home and come back to us.
