Help My Dad Regain His Independence After a Devastating Accident
My name is Jaclyn nelson, and I'm reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and asking for help. My dad, Barry Nelson, recently experienced a life-altering accident while preparing fireworks for a family gathering.
We need help getting back on his feet and are going to have extensive medical bills as well as need prosthetic hands and years of physical therapy to give him any chance of living a somewhat normal life again
The Accident
On July 29th, my dad's hands were severely injured in a tragic accident by a faulty fire cracker that left all his fingers on his left hand being amputated ( that is his dominant hand) and 3 fingers on his right hand to be amputated, and the other 2 fingers amputated at the knuckles and his whole thumb on his right hand to be amputated. He has a large chest wound too. And bruises on his face. Luckily he was wearing glasses and his eyes were protected. At this point it is still early and we do not know if he has movement in his hands. His can not move his left arm at all right now and he is convulsing on and off. He has a long road ahead of him for the healing and grieving process.
This devastating event will not only take away his ability to perform daily tasks but also his means of providing for himself and his household.
My dad has always been a hardworking and dedicated person who loves to help people. He is the care giver to a couple of people he will not be able to anymore. For income he is a handy man. He will fix of build anything. For fun he loves fishing or driving around saying hello to his friends. Thinking about him being unable to do the things he loves and to support himself is heartbreaking for me and him.
How You Can Help
We are reaching out to our friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers for support. Your generous donations will go directly towards:
- **Prosthetic Hands:** The cost of the prosthetics that will help my dad regain functionality.
- **Medical Expenses:** Covering additional medical costs associated with the accident and rehabilitation.
- **Living Expenses:** Assisting with day-to-day expenses since my dad is unable to work.
-**rehab and live in nurse** We don’t knot yet if he will be able to have a live at home nurse or if he will have to live in a rehab for a long time.
Our Goal Our goal is to raise $200,000 to cover these crucial expenses. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to helping my dad regain his independence and return to a life of happiness and purpose.
My dad’s story has been featured on News 12, highlighting the dangers of fireworks and the importance of leaving them to professionals. While My dads bravery and resilience shine through, he now faces a long and challenging road to recovery. We humbly ask for your generosity and support during this difficult time. Whether through a donation, sharing his story, or offering a helping hand, every bit of kindness will make a significant difference in my Dads journey towards healing and regaining his independence. Thank you for your compassion and solidarity from the bottom of my heart.

“Just last month, Barry was celebrating one of the happiest moments of his life—his only daughter’s wedding. The joy and pride he felt on that day stand in stark contrast to the difficult journey he now faces. This heartbreaking incident has left Barry in need of extensive medical care, including physical therapy and a costly prosthetic. The emotional and financial burden on Barry and his family is immense, and we are reaching out to our compassionate community for support.”
