Help with my Daughters Mental Health Treatment
Donation protected
Hello All,
My name is Alicia, I'm on here asking for help for my Daughter's mental health treatment that she needs, that is not covered by insurance. I'm not one to ask for help from anyone, it's usually me helping everyone and giving back all the time. However I don't know what to do anymore.Im in desperate need of help.
I'm terrified for my daughter and her future if she doesn't get the help she needs now.
Elia is 13yo now, she is diagnosed with depression, anxiety and has a borderline personality disorder(BPD) Mental illness.
The past 2 years it has been an absolute nightmare for everyone ,especially her. Between getting steady on meds and being misdiagnosed, it has been a rollercoaster. She has been to a few different inpatient and outpatient facilities, where she learned coping skills and how to better understand her triggers with depression, self-harm(cutting) and suicidal ideations. Elia has been doing well handling her depression, and self harm urges,I am so proud of her! I know it's so hard for her to get through the day when she's having a bad day or a bad moment. With the help of her support system and her God she is handling it.
Now that she knows how to manage the depression and anxiety for the most part, she needs help with controlling and understanding her borderline personality disorder ,BPD. Elia desperately needs DBT therapy (dialectical behavior therapy) this is pretty much the only thing that is going to help her and someone with BPD. If you're not familiar with it, please do your research, look it up.
People who have BPD can change the destructive behaviors and impulsive thinking ,they can live a "normal" life with the help of DBT therapy. People with BPD usually have a bad rep, however the diagnosis does not define El as a person. It is horrible to watch your child go through this and not have the means to help. It is affecting our whole family,we need a miracle here.
The DBT Center therapists do not participate with health insurance companies. This is a lot different than counseling/talk therapy. This is a 8month to 12month program. Elia would need one individual ,one group session and one family session a week during that time. Either she's too young to be accepted into the programs that do accept insurance or these programs don't accept insurance at all. That seems to be the problem we are facing, that these long-term programs do not work with insurance companies.
The prices are as followed for most of these places.
- Initial Evaluation/Diagnostic Assessment: (90 min) $350-$385
- Individual Psychotherapy: (45 min) $200 - Family Psychotherapy: (60 min) $250 -Skills Training Group: (90 min) $115
I know, it's absolutely ridiculous!!! There's a few other options with programs but they all seem to be around the same price. I'm trying to get her into the DBT Center of NJ or Princeton Center for DBT. Elia has a psychiatrist, psychologist and case worker that have been trying to help us with no luck. She still meets with her counselor once a week and works out of a DBT skills workbook, she also sees the Doctor once a month. That's still not enough.
Im willing to spend my life savings, which isn't enough.
You always hear people say to ask for help with your mental health ,but when a person is brave enough to speak out, it's so hard to find the help . Our mental health system is broken, and we are left to suffer.
We are desperately seeking help.
Again I'm not one to ask for anything ,but I will do anything I can for my child. This is my last option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. No donation is too small all donations are greatly appreciated.
Elia is an amazing child with a big heart!
She loves playing softball and loves her cats. She cares so deeply for her friends. Despite everything that is going on in her life she still manages to try and start each day positive.
Thank you and God Bless.
