Help My Disabled Father Stabilize After Eaton Fire

Donation protected
In the early morning of January 8th, my family’s multigenerational home was burned to the ground. All that stands are the front steps and chimney.

My disabled father, one of five residents in the family home, was only able to escape with the clothes on his back, his prosthetic leg, a few days of medication, and his car. All of his medical support equipment (much of which he had just acquired a day prior), medications he had just refilled, and important documents burned in the fire.

I’m setting up this GoFundMe to assist my father, Daniel, to get re-stabilized. Due to a major health issue a couple of years ago that resulted in losing his leg, he is also out of paid time off. During this health event and the subsequent health issues that followed, he had to borrow more paid time off (so he has negative PTO) because he is ineligible for short-term disability.

At 65, he remains a nurse practitioner for the elderly, unable to retire or take adequate time off work. He has repeatedly had to come to work before he was physically ready during health emergencies, and now has to work through fires and homelessness.

My father is currently staying at a Motel 6 and looking for a safe, accessible place to stay, near enough to work, as an immunocompromised and disabled person while he figures out next steps and hopefully longer term housing. He is extremely hesitant to ask for financial support because he is still working and feels like that is a privilege. I argue that no one should have to work through this, especially in their 60s.

With losing my mom to cancer, getting cancer himself, septic shock, limb loss, and now losing everything in a fire, my dad needs a break.

Please consider making a small donation so that he can find a place to stay and purchase some immediate necessities.
