Help My Family Recover Earthquake in Maras, Turkey

Monday's magnitude 7.8 earthquake and its hundreds of aftershocks are historic in scale and the death toll in Turkey alone has already surpassed 22,000 people.

All non-profit organizations are doing a great job raising funds to help recover, I thought it might create a bigger impact to set up family and relatives-oriented help as well, as it will focus on some specific needs of each family.

The funds are dedicated to the education of children and providing families with an immediate safe place during this transition. These funds will go directly to my family members & direct relatives, who are affected by the earthquake.

At this point, one of my cousins died in the earthquake together with her 7-year-old son. My mom's uncle lost his life under the rubble. We still haven't heard from my mom's aunt who is still under the rubble with her daughter-in-law and 2-year-old granddaughter. One of my cousins who was rescued from underneath the rubble is receiving surgery at a hospital in Nevsehir. His kids and wife are struggling in tents. My aunt and her husband survived the rubble after 3 days and now receiving medical help in Kahramanmaras.

So many of my family members who have been rescued are now without a place to get in. All the houses collapsed or were damaged. Most importantly, kids are having multiple layers of trauma in that atmosphere.

My main goal is to get them out of the situation so that they can start their education and new life as soon as possible.

I'm Salih Sarikaya, living in San Francisco Bay Area.

Funds will be transferred to my parents Selma Sarikaya and Huseyin Sarikaya directly where they will distribute them need basis, to their children, grandchildren and close relatives.

The money will go to Kahramanmaras initially, and then it will help with relocation efforts in different cities for the best option for children's education.
