My name is Monique Wilson. The story I'm about to tell you is about my beautiful sister Malika Jenkins. Over 30 years ago, we attended Louis D. Brandeis High School in New York City, where we played on the same basketball team. As our friendship grew, our bond became solidified as she gifted me the title of "Godmother" to her most precious possession her only son.
Malika's journey began early December 2020 while undergoing an MRI of her shoulder. During her exam, the radiologist noticed an anomaly of her results. Under the recommendation of her orthopedic doctor she was immediately referred to an oncologist. Malika did not understand what type of doctor an oncologist was until she researched it. Shortly afterwards she received a phone call that completely changed her life forever. On Christmas Eve 2020, her father was tragically killed at the age of 72 by a hit and run driver in South Carolina. Three days later, while still mourning his passing, she was officially diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone cancer) which has a high mortality rate. With no history of cancer in her family she struggled with the diagnosis. It’s been eight months of aggressive chemotherapy to prevent the spread. On July 29, 2021, she received a bone marrow transplant to wipe her system clean in hopes of rebuilding her white cell count towards remission. Unfortunately, due to the treatments she lost her hair which was very emotional for her but with her million dollar smile and sweet disposition she said “It’s just hair!” Her strength and courage will guide her through this ordeal. We don’t know what she needs financially because she is too proud to ask for help. All she keeps saying “He will provide.” By creating this page, we want to continue supporting her on her journey and ease some of her financial burdens. This fund will be used for medical bills, co-payments, medications, etc.
