Help Kaylie Regain Her Vision Following Stroke

Donation protected
Dear friends,

I'm reaching out to support my 26-year-old twin sister, Kaylie, who could use our help regaining her left peripheral vision loss. Kaylie lost her left peripheral vision due to a condition known as homonymous hemianopsia that developed following a stroke. This has caused her difficulty seeing objects or people approaching from the side, affecting her ability to drive, her ability to navigate crowded places, and her confidence to perform her duties as a newly graduated registered nurse, where keen observation is crucial.

On May 16th, 2024, my sister and I were studying when she suddenly stated she was feeling unwell. I assessed her for stroke symptoms, and upon noticing there were signs, she was rushed to the emergency room where she received immediate testing and her was stroke was confirmed. She was given TNK and was able to regain strength in her left arm and leg, but has lost about half of her vision. The stroke occurred during the finals week of her last class in nursing school. Determined to finish nursing school, she did everything she could to be discharged from the hospital to take her final and complete her preceptorship all while coping with her partial vision loss.

Our greatest hope for most effectively restoring Kaylie’s peripheral vision are with Rummel Side Vision Awareness Glasses. Covering this cost is one of our greatest and most time-sensitive priorities right now since she needs to appear at the DMV to be re-assessed for her ability to safely drive at the end of this June. These glasses, costing about $2500, will create a reflective image of her blind spot into her line of sight, restoring her left peripheral vision deficit and enabling safe driving and easing discomfort as she adjusts to her new profession as a registered nurse. I want to do everything I can to help my sister regain the independence she had before in what’s supposed to be a very exciting time in her life following all of her hard work.

Additionally, Kaylie needs to pay off ER costs and attend follow-up neurology appointments, optometry visits, and visual therapy/rehabilitation sessions. Any extra funds raised will be greatly appreciated and put towards these essential medical expenses.

Your generous contribution will help Kaylie reclaim her independence, driving ability and support her nursing career. Any amount you can give will make a meaningful difference in her recovery and day-to-day life.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
