Help my Mom (Susan) return home after a stroke
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shawn Blond and I am looking to raise funds for my Mom, Susan Blond. The goal is to get her home after a 3 month rehab battle from a stroke deep in the brain affecting the basil ganglia. She has been through hell and back over the past 7 years with seizures and strokes and deserves to live as independently as she can to help continue her rehabilitation and bring her some happiness. I am her only real family when it comes to being her advocate and providing support and care and am unable to provide support 24/7. These funds will help cover a caregiver to keep watch over her as she becomes re-accustomed to her own place again and can hopefully thrive in her home environment and no longer need a caretaker.
Background: In 2014 my Mother had her first seizure which left her with brain damage - neurologists said she may never walk or talk again. She was strong and worked hard to rehab herself back to life with her own sheer determination (as well as my loving support!). Due to her hard work she was able to return home and work but in 2015 she had another seizure which left her unable to go home as it impacted the brain damage area even further. She struggled in rehab for 4 months learning how to walk and talk again. She was unable to go home for 3 years which included time in an assisted living facility and retirement home. She fought tooth and nail to better herself and in 2018 she worked so hard at getting better she was finally able to move into her own apartment and live alone again! She went three years without a seizure. THREE YEARS. She was happy and thriving.
(4 months seizure free in 2018 - she loves Def Leppard!)
(Two years seizure free!)
2021 has brought the worst of luck to my Mom. She had her first seizure in three years back in April. She started having severe stomach pains which were unexplainable at the time causing dramatic blood loss and eventually a stroke followed in May.
With the doctors struggling to understand the source of her pain, she had yet ANOTHER stroke in July, which she is currently working hard to recover from. Additionally, she had to have a 4 hour major small intestine surgery to fix her blood loss issue. As a result of the stroke she now suffers from Aphasia and Perseveration but has made a lot of progress in acute and subacute rehab over the past 3 months. She can no longer stay at the subacute rehab and will be discharged in a week. She doesn't deserve to start all over at an assisted living facility where she would be miserable and depressed. She deserves every chance at happiness.

Please help my mother get back home where someone can help watch over her and ensure she is safe and can get acclimated to her home lifestyle. Please help her keep what's left of her small life savings as caretaking is out of pocket. The goal is to give this wonderful, brave, strong, and fierce spirited woman another chance. This may be her last hope at ever living alone again and she deserves it.
Thank you for reading and thank you for your support.
